Ketoconazole, an antifungal drug, inhibits several cytochrome P450- dependent enzymes, including 11b-hydroxylase, thus interfering with cortisol synthesis (an unwanted effect in most cases). It is, however, being used increasingly to treat Cushing's syndrome, precocious puberty, and prostatic carcinoma.
